The Allenwood Church

         History

Allenwood Protestant Church had its beginning, literally, in the form of an old fashioned "Methodist Meeting."  It used the "Old Squan Bridge School House" as a meeting place.  On June 28, 1857, a group of citizens met and organized "The Free Church of Allenwood."  The original church building was located just east of the present edifice in what is now the front part of the cemetery.  

Allenwood Church has had an unbroken record of services from 1859. It was not until 1894 that the Free Church of Allenwood became a Methodist Protestant Church.  The present building was completed and dedicated on Sunday, August 11, 1895.  In 1937, the Church severed its association with the Eastern Conferance of Methodist-Protestant Church.

Our Church's position today, as it was in 1859, is that of "Contending for the Faith," as we "Preach the unsearchable riches of Christ."

On December 7th 2008 the Rev. James A. Jordan, who had pastored for 25 years, retired and Ben Foley became the 39th pastor.  He came in response to God's call to continue moving the church forward into all God has for them as well as to build onto what has already been built.

Future & Present Vision

Our plans for the future involve many different aspects. 

But all future aspects have to do with one goal in mind:  Joining with God where He is working as we seek to fulfill our role in the "Great commission" of which Jesus said was to "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."  (Matthew 28:19-20).

Our main goal is to bring people into a reconciled relationship with God through faith in Christ, by the proclamation of the Gospel, in the power of the Holy Spirit, via the Word of God.

Then once people's hearts have turned to Christ; our goal is to help teach and train them to grow in fellowship with Christ that they might become effective servants and witnesses in life, deed and word, for His glory.

We trust that as we seek to do this that Jesus' promise and blessing of His presence ("And surely I will be with you always, even unto the end of the age") will be a very real reality for us.

How these goals are fleshed out will take many different forms as we seek the Lord!
